Diana Pearl Earrings
Freshwater pearls have been valued and treasured by various cultures throughout history. The earliest records of freshwater pearl cultivation can be traced back to ancient China, where the practice is believed to have originated around 2206 BC during the Xia Dynasty.
How are they cultivated? A small piece of mantle tissue or a mother-of-pearl bead, is placed inside the mollusk’s shell. This irritant stimulates the mollusk to coat it with layers of nacre, the same substance that forms the natural pearl in response to an irritant. Over time, these layers of nacre build up and create a pearl.
